A Day at the Stem Center
Today, the Boxwell News Team visited the Parnell STEM Center. There were multiple merit badge classes happening, like engineering, radio, chemistry and programming. The Scouts in the engineering merit badge were building with Legos. Chemistry was conducting an experiment with red cabbage. We also met the-very polite and cute- rats kept at the STEM center. Everyone was in high spirits, despite the harsh weather.

After we finished our exploration of the Parnell Stem Center, we visited the Skilled Trades area where Welding and Woodworking were taking place. The woodworkers were making toolboxes, while Welding was learning lap welds. A lap weld is where you weld something together with an overlap between the things being conjoined.

Fun Fact of The Day!
Fun Fact: The bones of some Sea Otters become stained purple due to pigments in the Purple Sea Urchins they eat! The more urchins they consume, the more purple the hue of their bones. The pigment is called echinochrome.
